WAFFLE POD SLABS ADVANTAGES

Insulation

A normal conventional slab couples itself to the ground temperature of two metres below ground level. This temperature is constant. Between that point and ground level there are lines of isotherms (isotherms being different lines of temperature).

After a slab is placed on the ground those isotherms all naturally collate towards the surface and the centre of the slab becomes the same temperature as the constant temperature 2 metres below the ground.

A waffle raft slab does limit this coupling to the ground temperature and interrupts this natural course of events and having huge “R” values the layer of concrete over the top develops a thermal mass that acts as an insulated bank.

Suitable for most sites even those with inferior soil grades

Vast areas of Adelaide’s metropolitan region was totally uninhabited due to inferior soil grades but with the strong structural strength of the waffle raft slab system, these uninhabited areas are now full of beautiful insulated, structurally sound homes.

Five star ratings

Tasmania must and will be moving on to five star energy ratings and to meet Kyoto Protocols will also have to move on to 6 & 7 star ratings. It is assumed Waffle Pods will play a vital part in this, source: University of Tasmania.

Give your concrete slab an R value, check out the CSIRO report in the downloads on the left hand side.
